Significance of Sree Raghavapuram Temple:

One of the significant factors related to the temple is that temple holds different deities that include lord Rama, Lord Anjaneya, Lord Parameshwara and Sree Durga in the single entity. This is one of the important temples that incarnate Lord Hanuman in the Malabar region.Though the temple is devoted to Lord Rama, Hanuman is placed next to the north west corner of Lord Rama.

Temple Legend:

Earlier, the idol of Shree Ramachandra  facing east had the mood of the Lord as was during the battle (Rama-Ravana yudha). It was felt during that time, that residents on the Eastern side of the temple were experiencing lot of hardship. On conducting prashnam it was decided to open a doorway for the temple on the western side facing ‘Ezhimala’, and to shut the doorway facing eastern side and also to reinstall (punarpadishta) Shree Ramachandra with Shree Sita Devi along with Shree Lakshma.

It is believed that during the battle at Lanka, when Shri Hanuman carried the Mountain with Mridhasanjeevani to Lanka for giving life to Lakshmana, a piece of the mountain broke and fell down from his hands and thus the ‘Ezhimala’ was formed. The protection of this temple also is vested in the hands of the Lord Shri Hanuman.

Temple Festivals:

The main festival celebrated in the temple is the makaram festival that falls on January to February every year. During this festival, all the idols including lord Rama, Sita, Hanuman, lord Shiva and goddess Durga are consorted by Brahmins on the head with a special dance that is termed as thidambu nirutham. This time is famous for offering avil to lord hanuman.
