Significance of the temple:
Moolavar is manifested in the form of ‘Dandayudapani’. Contrary to regular practice, here Moolavar pooja and Nivedya precedes that of Lord Vinayaka in the temple premises. It is Ancient Lore that since Lord Muruga was angry that Mango was not given to him and is seated in this hill, Nivedya and Pooja is performed first to Lord Muruga to pacify him.
The famous 'Sri SkandaSasti Kavacham' was started by Sri Bala Devaraya Swamigal, here. Sri Valli and Sri Deivani, both in one stone in separate temples is an exclusive facet. A speciality of this sthala, is that any childless couple that follow a 'vratha' on the sixth day from 'Shashti' are blessed with children.
Milk and curds are used as special offerings to Lord Muruga in Chennimalai and it is the general belief that curds do not become sour here.
Asking for the Lord's permission before taking up any task like building a new house or getting their children married or any other issue is customary in this temple. Devotees offer an Archnai and perform Sirasappu offering. If the reply is positive they whole-heartedly perform that action or event. Traditionally if the answer is negative the Devotees do not venture further.
